Joint-design effect on the metallurgical and mechanical behavior of duplex stainless steel welds

In the present investigation, influence of joint design on microstructure and mechanical properties SAF 2205 duplex stainless steel welds are reported. Plates with two different designs were welded using gas tungsten arc welding process. To investigate sole effect design, joints designed in such a way that both have similar groove volumes. The weldments investigated for microstructural characterization, ferrite content, microhardness study; later, they subjected to Charpy V-notch impact test, transverse tensile fatigue testing order performance. Both weld able achieve 100% efficiency view test. Different configurations demonstrated differential heat dissipation characteristics joints, evident from morphological features revealed through optical microscopy weldment. affected ferrite(α)-austenite(γ) ratio metals differed terms content root pass. zone U-joint showed 65.8% fraction thus 18% more hardness as compared V-joint, while V-joint had highest yield stress 617 MPa. study performed better comparison microhardness, toughness, behavior. could resist around 15% cycles than under high cycle fatigue.
